Facebook owned apps are racking up the landmarks this week. First we learned Instagram had hit 500m active users, now it has been revealed WhatsApp is processing a stunning amount of voice calls every day.
The makers of the web-based communications app says it is now handling over 100m voice calls every single day.
WhatsApp says that’s 1,100 calls per second, a stunning rise given the feature has only been available since March 2015.

When it comes improving calling, the firm may be referring to the addition of video chatting. Strangely, that feature remains absent, but was tested in earlier this year suggesting a roll out may be coming soon.
Earlier this year, company rolled out end-to-end encryption for all users, another loyalty-inspiring move.
The continued rise of WhatsApp, which is closing on a billion users, and Instagram come in stark contrast to Twitter.
The service continues to struggle to attract new users, with its active participants now eclipsed by those using Snapchat.
Skype, meanwhile, is still going great guns, handling 3 billion minutes of voice calls every single day.
