WhatsApp adds voice messaging feature to all platforms.

WhatsApp has introduced a voice messaging feature to its app across all operating systems.

Enhancing the service offered by its cross-platform service, WhatsApp has made sure the new voice messaging functionality launched for all versions of its messaging app at once.

“We are releasing Voice Messages on all of our platforms simultaneously”, reads the WhatsApp blog post. “We worked very hard to make sure that iPhone and Android devices have perfectly working Voice Messages functionality, and we put extra effort into making sure that BlackBerry, Nokia and Windows Phone users can enjoy the same rich and powerful Voice Messaging experience.”

Touchscreen phone users can simply press the microphone icon at the bottom of the messaging window to record their voice message. When they have said everything they need to, they just need to take their finger off the button for the voice message to send immediately.

BlackBerry smartphones lacking a touchscreen, such as the BlackBerry Curve 9320, can hold down the space bar to record their message, whereas Nokia phone users can hold down the centre button.

There’s also an option to cancel any voice messages currently recording, just in case users change their mind.

WhatsApp users can see any unheard voice messages as they are labelled with a green microphone icon. This is also the colour used for any sent voice messages that haven’t been listened to by the recipient.

When that message has been played, the colour of the microphone will turn blue, to notify the sender.

Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8 smartphones users can listen to WhatsApp voice messages privately by lifting the phone to their ear, with the app instantly recognising the motion using the phone’s sensors.

The voice messaging feature is available now and doesn’t require an app upgrade.
