What’s the best headset for VR porn? We ask an expert

VR headsets are all the rage, but which one is best to buy for a different kind of hands-on? We asked the CEO of VR porn trailblazer BaDoinkVR for some hard insights.

There’s no shortage of virtual reality headsets to choose from these days. From entry-level options like Google Cardboard to premium devices like the Oculus Rift and gaming-first HMDs like PlayStation VR, consumers really are spoilt for choice as they look to join the VR revolution.

The exception is if you want to get hip to VR for more…grown-up purposes.

Virtual reality porn is currently a nascent subset of the larger adult entertainment industry, but it’s set to be a big deal in the near future, so if you’re looking to buy your first VR headset, why shy away from its erotic potential?

To get the most self-pleasure for your pound, you’ll want a half-decent headset, as there’s a huge difference between enhancing your wanking with the help of proper tech and getting off with a glorified empty Rizla packet strapped to your noggin.

That’s not just based on personal experience, either – it’s the opinion of BaDoinkVR CEO and virtual reality expert Todd Glider.

Speaking exclusively to TrustedReviews at Apps World 2016 in London, Glider said that when it came to enjoying VR porn, it was about finding the right balance between quality, portability and price.

He told us:

“Technically of course, the HTC Vive is best, and Oculus is great too. But for ease of use, the Gear VR is more than sufficient and it’s a solid experience.

“It’s not a great experience but the Gear VR is enough. It’s strong enough that it deserves a place on your desk next to your other gear, unlike Cardboard, and it’s not something that’ll overtake your desk like a Vive or an Oculus.”

It’s a view that makes sense to us, especially if your VR needs are purely masturbatory. Serious gamers will obviously want to ante up to more sophisticated products, but if you’re just stoking the fire on the sly, a mid-range investment like the (circa) £80 Gear VR fits the bill.

Glider also had some interesting things to say about Apple’s potential entrance into the VR market, or if you’re after a deeper dive into all the virtual reality hardware that’s out there, check out our best VR headsets round-up.
