What’s the best games console of all time?

With the next-generation PS4 Neo, Xbox Scorpio and Nintendo NX on the horizon, we look and debate what was the games best console of all time?

In this week’s decidedly pink-themed Head-to-Head, Brett Phipps (@InveteBrett) and Alastair Stevenson (@MonkeyGuru) fight over which was the best console ever made.

BRETT SAYS…

The Nintendo 64 is undoubtedly the best games console ever made.

It ushered in the era of 3D gaming with Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Super Mario 64 to name just a few of the instant classics produced for the console.

That’s not all. Multiplayer games like Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros, WWF: No Mercy and of course, Goldeneye, made the N64 a must-have console for playing with friends and family.

I’ll admit the N64 controller wasn’t exactly well designed (unless you had three hands), but it did introduce an analogue stick to the controller which was a huge step forward over the traditional D-Pad.

ALASTAIR SAYS…

It may have been its last console, but the Sega Dreamcast revolutionised the gaming industry.

The Dreamcast not only brought online gaming to consoles, including the fantastic Phantasy Star Online, but it introduced dual-screen gaming with the unique second display on the controller.

Sega may have discontinued the Dreamcast after just 18 months, but games like Shenmue, Sonic Adventure, Jet Set Radio and Soulcalibur had a huge impact on modern games in terms of gameplay mechanics and story telling.

Short-lived, but in my eyes the Dreamcast is the best console ever made.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
