Tech companies are renowned for choosing weird brand names and acronyms, and Apple is no different.

The launch of the iPhone SE has raised many questions, but the one that’s boggling the minds of the majority of Apple fans is this: what does the SE in iPhone SE stand for?

The question, which Apple has yet to answer, is sure to rank alongside other queries such as, "What is the meaning of life?" and "Why does Will Smith never age?".

As with all things, the best solution is crowdsourcing, right? After all, look how well that worked out for Boaty McBoatface.

We’ve turned to Twitter to find out exactly what the SE in iPhone SE really stands for.

In the automotive world it means "Special Edition" meaning that all the stuff you would have to chose as an optional extra comes included

Apple should've kept it simple.. iphone 5E "E - Enhanced". But hey, five looks like an "S". So, did someone mess up big time in the chinese factories? :P

Even though it probably means Special Edition, I'd like to say the S stands for Speed and the E stands for Economy; in that way we could get 7, 7+ and 7E in the next batch, and 7S, 7S+ and 7SE in the subsequent batch.

I vote "Special Edition."
