Cisco claims that wearable adoption will rocket in the near future as the internet of everything and the connected world becomes more apparent.
As wearables start to become a viable technology sector with the emergence of devices like the Samsung Gear Fit, Jawbone UP24 or the Sony SmartWatch 2, Cisco believes they will be key to the advances of the 'Internet of Everything' and the future connected world.
Wearable technology will “shoot through the roof” in the near future, according to Phil Smith, CEO of Cisco UK and Ireland, showing off his own Fitbit Flex.
He explained "currently there are only a very small percentage of connected items. There’s huge potential to connect people, things and data" very quickly in the future.
Over the past decade, people have become increasingly reliant on the internet and this will only grow as we start to adopt wearable technology, even Google Glass.
“People expect to be connected. That expectation of connectivity is part of our world.”
Speaking at a Cisco CREATE Internet of Everything event in London, Smith added that the expansion of technological devices available at a consumer level, including smart home appliances is also at the heart of a truly connected future.
“Technology is making a fundamental change and the internet is right at the heart of that in the way in connects people and things”, he said. “The internet of everything has the potential to change everything we do”
