Waze’s Planned Drives update tells you the best time to leave

The popular Google-owned navigation app Waze has introduced a new feature that enables users to be notified of the best time to drive.

Wazers can now add Planned Drives letting them know the best time to leave in order make it to their destination at the desired hour.

Users, whose data is crowd-sourced for the benefit of the rest of the community, can plan a journey as they normally would and then tap the ETA button in order to gain the insight.

Waze drivers can enter their desired arrival time on that day, or a day in the future, and the app will do the rest.

The app will send users a notification informing them of the best time to leave, based on the current traffic conditions and historical data.

In a post on its official blog, the company advised drivers to “set it and forget it.”

The post reads: “Now you’ll always know when to go! Enter the time and date you need to arrive and Waze will recommend the best time to leave. You’ll also receive a reminder closer to your event with an updated departure time based upon real-time road conditions.”

Users must make sure to enable reminders in order to be notified of the time to leave.

It’s also possible to add a stop for gas or coffee into the Planned Drive for a more refined departure time.

While this feature is primarily designed for manually inputting travel plans, it’ll also sync with Facebook Events and Google Calendar.

As of right now, the feature is only available to iOS users but will be coming to Android smartphones soon.
