Watch this drone chase down (and land on) car at 75kmh

Another day, another awesome drone video…

Scientists in Germany have managed to develop a drone that can land on moving objects at high-speed.

The German Aerospace Centre has released a video depicting an unmanned aerial vehicle doing just that: landing on a car driving at 75kmh.

The drone itself is an ultralight solar-powered aircraft that can fly at altitudes of over 20km.

It’s designed to help with crisis management in disasters, replacing failed communications networks, or providing data on climate change.

What’s more, this class of drone can stay airborne for “several weeks”, which is why the researchers have tried to keep weight down.

To that end, weight reduction tactics like removing the landing gear were effected – hence the car landing.

The aircraft in the video weighs 20kg, and is three meters long. The platform, meanwhile, is four meters long by five meters wide.

However, the drone is purportedly capable of navigating to a position accurate to within 50cm, courtesy of a computerised tracking system.
