Watch a touching animated tribute to Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata

Satoru Iwata once said “On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.”

The life of Satoru Iwata was honored yesterday during the GDC Awards, where a heartfelt animated tribute was shown.

Animated by Raber Umphenour and David Hellma, the touching piece reflects on Iwata’s career and contributions to the industry.

Satoru Iwata passed away in July 2015 at the age of 55 after a long battle with cancer.

Iwata acted as Nintendo President from 2002 until his death in 2015, having a major hand in creating the Nintendo 3DS, Wii and Wii U.

His role in the game industry was significant, and he won’t be forgotten.

The current Nintendo president is Tatsumi Kimishima, who aims to “restore balance” at Nintendo with the release of the NX and upcoming smartphone titles.
