Vodafone Call+ adds Skype-style features to phone calls

Our phones are now basically supercomputers, so isn’t it about time the standard phone call got an upgrade?

That’s just what Vodafone has done with its new Call+ app. It lets you send information like images, maps and contacts in real time from within the call. Plus you can start a video call on the fly.

Hang up, and you can get back in touch without leaving the app – just stay in the call log. It’s basically like a Skype call or instant messaging thread.

If you want to give someone a heads-up beforehand, you can use the pre-call feature. This lets you ping a note saying why you’re calling, how important the call is, along with a map or picture relating to it. Or maybe just a snap of your cat.

And if the recipient doesn’t answer, you can send them a follow-up text or voice message that appears alongside the missed call notification.

In other words, it brings together a lot of different methods of contact into one handy place. The only downside is, people don’t call each other that much anymore.

Vodafone is the first UK network to add these features. To use them, you’ll need the app for Android or iOS, unless you own a handset in the Sony Xperia Z3 range, the Z5 or Z5 Compact, which are supported out of the box.
