Vizio has launched an interesting little set-top box in the US. The Vizio Co-Star offers Google TV and OnLive support and costs just $99.99, which is half the price of the Sony Google TV box.
We're not yet convinced that Google TV set-top boxes will attract the mainstream, but the Vizio Co-Star is a pretty tasty proposition. It's small, packs both Google TV and OnLive support and is significantly cheaper than most Google TV boxes. Vizio claims it's the "first stream player to offer video games on demand through the OnLive Game Service." However, it's not yet clear whether the Co-Star simply has an OnLive app pre-installed or whether it has "native" functionality like the OnLive Microconsole.
Google TV will also grant access to services like Netflix, and the Google Play app store comes built-in.
To control the Co-Star, Vizio includes a compact Bluetooth remote control that features a trackpad as well as more conventional media buttons. Wi-Fi n is built into the Co-Star, and the box features a USB port to let you connect a keyboard, mouse or external hard drive.
The Vizio Co-Star will be available to pre-order from the Vizio website in July, but at present we do not know if it'll ship to the UK.
