TiVo, the advanced PVR that claims to know you better than you know yourself (when it comes to your TV habits at least), has partnered with Virgin Media to produce a bespoke iPad app.
The free app can be downloaded and will let you view TV schedules and Virgin Media’s catalogue of on-demand content from the comfort of your sofa – while not interrupting TV viewing for other people.
While you won’t be able to watch content directly on your iPad, Virgin Media is hinting that that function may be coming down the line.
Having found something which tickles your fancy on the iPad app, you can then immediately begin watching that programme on your TV “with just a couple of swipes.”
As well as browsing, the app will let you set up your recordings on your tablet in a more intuitive way than currently available on the iPhone and Android apps.
The app will be supported by TiVo boxes once the first major firmware update is rolled out “in the coming months” according to Virgin Media. The company is also promising more features will be included with the update and they will be announced in due course.
In other TiVo news, Virgin Media also announced that Samsung will now be producing TiVo boxes for it, having won the rights over current manufacturer Cisco.
Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said: “In less than a year since launch we are already building new features to offer our customers more ways to enjoy their service with an unprecedented user experience, and maintaining our position at forefront of technological innovation in TV.”
“The companion app and other forthcoming enhancements we are working on form part of our long term strategy to deliver the most dynamic and user friendly multi-screen entertainment experience in the U.K.”
