Vine update focuses on music

A new Vine update has added two major new features centred around music.

The popular app has built up a considerable 200 million-strong user base by enabling you to make and share six second videos from your smartphone. Now the service has taken a notable turn for the more musical.

First up is a feature Vine is calling Snap to Beat. This lets you create seamless music loops for your Vine videos. Just choose a song using the music note from the Details screen, and Snap to Beat will identify the amount of music needed to form a complete loop. It will then trim your video to fit.

You can easily turn this new Snap to Beat feature off if you want to edit the audio yourself (such as adding a sound effect).

The second new music-based Vine feature is Featured Tracks. It lets you add licensed music tracks to your Vine videos – again through the music note menu.

This will also bring about a Shazam-like music discovery feature. When one of those licensed tracks is used, the viewer will see a music note that can be tapped to gain information on the song and artist.

These new musical features are available in Vine for iOS and Android from today.
