4G - it uses magic yellow antennae?

It's safe to safe the talk of the town at the moment is 4G. Earlier in the week Everything Everywhere, owners of Orange and T-Mobile here in the UK, surprised all and sundry by announcing that it had been given permission to start offering its UK 4G mobile network as soon as 11 September, months and months before any of its competitors are expected to have rival services. But, what does 4G actually mean for you? Well, Everything Everywhere is here to explain.

The company has just unveiled two short videos that explain just why 4G is considered so important by many, and just what all the fuss is about. Okay, so they're a bit self-aggrandising but still worth a watch.

4G: The benefits, facts and statistics

I seriously doubt that 4G will bring any benefits to domestic customers in the UK. With mobile apps and gaming becoming more data hungry (plus the increasing popularity in streaming content), most of the data plans are wholly insufficient in catering for 4G. 500MB - 2GB plan per month aren't enough and they (the service providers) know it. Additionally, they'll have restricted capacity which won't help matters so in my opinion 4G is dead. Currently, service providers can't even provide decent 3G capacity or coverage.
