Valve’s new Steam Controller and Steam Link currently don’t work with Mac, despite earlier promises.
Mac owners who have invested early in Valve’s new technology – the Steam Controller and the Steam Link – have now been told that neither device will work with Apple products, at least for the time being.
“Unfortunately, there are some temporary software issues that prevent the hardware from functioning with Macs,” said Valve in an email to customers, via Eurogamer.
“The Steam Link doesn’t currently stream from Macs. An upcoming update will add full support for streaming audio, video and controller input. The Steam Controller doesn’t currently support gamepad emulation on Macs.”
“If you opt into the Steam beta client, keyboard/mouse emulation will be functional.”
“We expect these problems to be resolved as we update firmware and drivers over the next few weeks. We want to apologise for the delays in providing full functionality for the Mac platform. We’re doing everything we can to resolve the issues.”

But, just to butter Mac users up, Valve is offering them a special present. All affected customers are getting lifelong access to all of Valve’s current and future titles – yes, that probably includes Half Life 3 before you ask.
“We’ve added the Valve Complete Pack to your Steam account as a free gift from Valve,” added the email. “This will give you all of Valve’s games (past, present and future) free of charge. You can still choose to refund you Steam Controller and/or Steam Link, but the Valve games are yours to keep.”
The Complete Pack is worth a whopping £75.99, so that’s one heck of a gift from Valve.
