Some Nexus 6P owners are reporting that the phone’s distinctive camera visor is spontaneously cracking.
The Nexus 6P recently launched to widespread acclaim, providing a truly premium stock Android experience for arguably the first time.
However, some Nexus 6P users are reporting that the glass visor covering the rear camera element is cracking for no apparent reason. There’s a Reddit thread on the subject, with a number of users adding their own experiences of this flaw.
One particular user reports leaving their Nexus 6P on a table and hearing a loud snap. The glass had cracked, leaving “a little snowfall of shavings on the table under it.”
As 9to5Google picks out, two users have provided images to support their findings, and both show remarkably similar signs of damage.
Neither Google nor Huawei have commented on this as yet, and it’s perhaps a little early to call it a widespread issue. Something would seem to be amiss, however.

As to the possible cause of this cracking, some have suggested that it could be a case of the visor glass cooling down when placed on a cold surface after use, causing it to shrink a little too rapidly. Under such circumstances, the slightest scratch or flaw in the glass could lead to such damage.
It’s been pointed out that the Nexus 4’s all-glass back suffered similar bouts of cracking at first, prompting Google and LG to issue a revised model. It remains to be seen if a similar situation will develop with the Nexus 6P.
