The time has come for the US to elect a new leader, and whether Trump or Clinton comes out on top, the election result is likely to have wide-ranging consequences.
Which means, those of us outside the US will likely be looking for a way to follow the developments as and when they happen.
And if you’re not near a TV for whatever reason, you’re going to want to keep up with the election online. Luckily there are numerous options to live stream the events or follow along in other ways.
When do the US election results come in?
Much of the live coverage of the election will start at around 10pm UK time, ahead of the East Coast polling booths closing at midnight our time.
At 1am UK time a load of states close their polling booths, with Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Delaware, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia all set to be projected.
The real action should be at around 4am Wednesday, UK time, as California, which has 55 electoral votes, closes its polls along with Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Hawaii. At this point, expect to hear a concession speech.
Where can I watch the US election results?
First up, the BBC has ongoing coverage of the election from 11.15pm this evening until 6am on Wednesday morning, which means you can watch online by using the iPlayer service (you’ll need a TV licence, though).
For those on mobile devices, you might consider checking out the iPlayer app, which can be downloaded on Android and iOS.
Alternatively, Sky News has full coverage, starting at 9pm UK time tonight. That means those with a Sky subscription can use the Sky Go service to watch online. Even if you don’t have a Sky subscription, you can watch Sky News live via the website.
If you’re looking to watch the coverage on a mobile device, you can download the Sky Go app for Android or iOS.
For those looking to keep up with election developments via a US outlet, CNN’s Election Night in America coverage will be streamed live in its entirety to CNN.com’s homepage.
