Up By Jawbone Monitors Your Activity & Sleep

Jawbone, the company best known for its stylish Bluetooth

speakers, has announced Up, a wristband which aims to monitor you daily

activity, sleep patterns and the food you eat.

The Up by Jawbone wristband, which is immediately

recognisable as a Jawbone product, will work in conjunction with an iOS app

which will let you monitor your activity throughout the day, monitors your

sleeping habits and also acts as a meal tracker.

Inside the rather stylish wristband is a shock-resistant

motion sensor which can monitor your steps, distance, calories burned, pace,

intensity level, active versus inactive time, GPS routes and more. You can sync

all data with your iDevice using the 3.5mm jack which is hidden under one end

of the wristband.

The wristband claims to be sweat- and water-resistant which

will mean you can keep it on even in the gym and while in the shower.

You can even program the device to vibrate when you have

been inactive for too long. A nice feature, but could turn out to be like a

nagging wife (or husband) if it vibrates too often.

Having put the wristband in sleep

mode, via the app, the Up wristband will automatically track the amount of

hours slept, deep versus light sleep, awake time and overall sleep quality.

The Up’s silent Smart Alarm will vibrate on your wrist and

“intelligently wake you up at the ideal moment in your natural sleep cycle just

before your desired wake time.” Something the Pure Twilight also attempts to do.

The meal tracking feature is far less comprehensive as all

it involves is you taking a picture of your meal and then responding to

questions about how the food made you feel. Not sure how we’d respond after a

feed at Maccy Ds without lying though.

Jawbone has also set up a number of Challenges through the

app which aim to “keep you moving more, sleeping better and eating smarter.” It

will even allow you to compete with friends via the social aspect of the app.

Inside the rather attractive band is a rechargeable battery

with up to 10 days use on a single charge. It can be recharged via a USB on

your computer.

The Up wristband will be available at the end of November

costing £79.99 and will be available in three colours (Dark Black, Bright Red

and Bright Silver) and in three sizes (Large, Medium and Small).

We are certainly enticed by the minimal aesthetic of the Up

wristband, but let us know what you think in the comments below.
