Universal Studios buys Steve Jobs movie from Sony

Universal Studios has apparently picked up the rights to the Steve Jobs movie from Sony, according to recent reports.

Last week rumours emerged that Sony was dropping the Steve Jobs biopic, penned by Aaron Sorkin, after two years of production. It was also claimed at the time that Universal Studios was weighing up a move for the film.

Now that appears to have been proved right, with The Hollywood Reporter being told by a Universal spokesperson that the production company has agreed to buy it from Sony for $30 million.

Britain’s Danny Boyle is to direct the movie, which will be based around Walter Isaacson’s best-selling Steve Jobs biography, and will focus on three key product launches throughout Steve Jobs’s career. Michael Fassbender is rumoured to be starring following the withdrawal of Christian Bale.

Elsewhere it’s claimed that Seth Rogen is in talks to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

However the film works out, it should prove to be significantly better than the recent Ashton Kutcher vehicle, Jobs, that also claimed to portray the Apple founder.
