Uncharted 4 is Nathan Drake’s last hurrah, but franchise could live on

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

The PS4-exclusive Uncharted 4 will be the last of protagonist Nathan Drake’s adventures, but developer Naughty Dog has hinted the series could still move forward in his absence.

The oft-delayed Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will arrive on April 29 and will bring a close to Drake’s part in the epic gaming franchise, at lease in a linear sense.

Speaking to The Sun (via Den of Geek), co-creator Neil Druckmann suggested a Drake-centric prequel could be possible, but says a sequel would be ‘really hard.’

He wrote: “With the end of [Uncharted 4's] story, it will be really hard to do a sequel with Nathan Drake.

"Maybe there'll be a prequel, maybe it will be a different character, I don't know. But this is the end for Nathan Drake."

What Druckmann means by it being ‘really hard’ to continue the franchise with Drake as a central character remains to be seen.

Whether he goes down in a blaze of glory or just decides he’s going to see out his days selling car insurance, we’re going to have to wait until the end of April to find out.

"We've been with this character for so long," Druckmann added.

"He's at the height of his popularity, so it's not a good business decision. But I feel like the best way to honour him is to go out on top, to finish his story."

If you can’t wait until the end of April for your final fill of Nathan Drake, you can play through the first three games, remastered for the PS4, in Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection.
