Video games retailer GAME has offered an explanation – of sorts – for a spate of recent issues, which have seen high-profile pre-orders cancelled and gamers overcharged for purchases.

The high-street and online store has been subject to criticism over the past few months for issues relating to four major releases.

As MCV reports, the exclusive Batmobile Edition of the Arkham was cancelled following problems with the toy’s quality.

Meanwhile, in September, GAME cancelled many Metal Gear Solid V pre-orders after charging gamers for the wrong version. Later that month, Super Mario Maker customers were overcharged for their copies of the Wii U game.

Now into November, some Pip-Boy Editions of Fallout 4 were cancelled – come to think of it, this is probably for the best. Even with the orders that remained in tact, gamers are reporting missed deliveries and wrong charges on their statements.

GAME’s response to this litany of errors? It isn't the retailer's fault, it's mostly the customer’s fault.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the retailer wrote: "This year alone, GAME has received hundreds of thousands of pre-orders.

“Of those customers placing a pre-order with us, only a small number have experienced any issues – and in most instances that's been a result of matters that are out of our control, such as insufficient funds or payment provider issues.”

“We know that our community will have been waiting for their pre-orders for a long time and so it's no surprise that they become vocal on social media.

“While the circumstances are often out of GAME’s control, we're very sorry for any inconvenience caused when shopping with us.”
