Ubisoft acquires Rocksmith developer Longtail Studios

Ubisoft has acquired Rocksmith developer Longtail Studios, adding to its huge roster of first party studios.

There’s another first party developer now under the huge Ubisoft umbrella and that’s Longtail Studios.

The huge French publisher has now purchased Longtail Studios, responsible for games including the latest Rocksmith 2014 Edition.

The Canada-based studio has now been rebranded as Ubisoft Halifax and will be focused on developing mobile games.

It’s not the first time the studio has worked on Ubisoft titles, as it’s behind titles such as Sports Connection and Dance On Broadway.

“As we continue to grow our mobile business, we’re also looking to develop our expertise and expand our network of mobile studios,” explained Ubisoft Mobile’s executive director, Jean-Michel Detoc.

“A team of more than 30 talented people in Halifax brings with it a wealth of experience as well as a clear understanding of Ubisoft’s culture and processes.”

Longtail Studios was actually originally set up by Ubisoft co-founder Gerard Guillemot. It originally had two branches, one in Quebec and the other in Halifax. However, Ubisoft acquired the Quebec office back in 2010.

Ubisoft also announced earlier this month that it has purchased The Crew developer Ivory Tower.
