Uber Corner Store delivery service launched

Uber has launched a new delivery service. Called Corner Store, it allows users to request drivers to pick up goods for them and get them delivered wherever they are.

The service, which is being trialled in Washington D.C, works in much the same way as requesting an Uber car. Simply toggle across to the Corner Store option in the Uber app and set your location. Uber will then fire off a text telling you what items you can buy and you’ll receive a call from your driver so you can place an order.

Uber has released an inventory of more than 100 products that are available. For now, it’s limited to every day items, such as toiletries and household products.

Prices are understandably a touch higher than you’d pay if you hit the shops yourself (think chewing gum for $3 and deodorant for $11), but you’ll only be charged for products, with delivery included.

The service is up and running now, but Uber says it’ll only last for a few weeks. Those Uber users selected to try out the service will be able to order products between 9am and 9pm, Monday to Friday. However, the controversial company says that the more popular it proves, the longer the experiment is likely to last.

‘Corner Store’ marks a new front in Uber’s battle to become one of the world’s go–to apps. Having taken on traditional taxi firms in over 100 cities worldwide, it now appears to be readying itself for a fight with Amazon’s same–day delivery service.
