The UE Boom 2 and larger UE Megaboom offer superb sound, excellent battery life and a rugged water-resistant design. They now offer Amazon Alexa support too.
An over-the-air software update available through the UE Boom apps introduces the popular digital assistant. This follows an update to bring Siri and Google Now to the speakers last summer.
While users will get everything Alexa has to offer, they’ll have to press the Bluetooth pairing button on the speaker itself (via The Verge) to access the functionality.

That may actually be preferable for some folks. Some folks want the benefit of Alexa without the always-listening voice controls of the Echo and Echo Dot ranges.
Regardless, the ‘always listening’ tech would likely massacre the speakers’ battery life, even if it were an option.
The power of Alexa
The roll-out comes after Ultimate Ears’ parent company Logitech released beta apps featuring Alexa support back in April.
Now all UE Boom 2 and Megaboom users will be able to request music, get news and traffic updates, order an Uber, control smart home devices and much more.
All they’ll need to do is ensure the Alexa app is downloaded and they’re signed in with an Amazon account.
Just recently we’ve seen many devices gain Alexa support post release. The most recent is the HTC U11, which is the first smartphone to give users a choice between Alexa and the Google Assistant.
