Twitter launches video app Twitter Vine

Twitter has launched Twitter Vine, a stand-alone mobile app allowing users to share videos via Twitter, with CEO Dick Costolo posting the social network’s first ever video.

Keeping in line with the Twitter ideology of brevity, Twitter Vine only allows you to post video clips that are six seconds or shorter in length. The app allows you to record videos from within, as well as creating a montage of smaller clips in the fashion Costolo demonstrates.

Costolo demoed the new service by posting a six second video showing how to make steak tartare.

The Twitter Vine app captures motion and sound to enable users to create unique GIF-like looping videos.

“Like Tweets, the brevity of videos on Vine (6 seconds or less) inspires creativity,” the Vine company said in an official blog post. “Now that you can easily capture motion and sound, we look forward to seeing what you create.”

Along the Instagram line, Twitter Vine also allows you to follow other users and search for clips from people they know.

The stand-alone app is a Twitter-owned video service, but as of yet it will not a fully-integrated Twitter feature.

Available free now on the Apple App Store to iPhone and iPod Touch users, Vine has said it is working to bring the app to other platforms soon.

Only time will tell as to whether posting videos on Twitter will catch on with the micro-blog’s devoted users.

Do you think being able to post short videos on Twitter will be a popular feature, or do you think the constantly looping videos will clog up your feed? Let us know your opinion using the comment section below.
