Super-heroes save you from super-villains, but who’s got your back in the battle against trolls?
Twitter has announced the Trust & Safety Council, a new initiative to keep you safe from online abuse.
It’s a partnership with a wide range of charities and organisations that will help Twitter develop “products, policies, and programs” to quash cyberbullying.
“To ensure people can continue to express themselves freely and safely on Twitter, we must provide more tools and policies,” says Patricia Cartes, Twitter’s Head of Global Policy Outreach.
Cartes continues: “With hundreds of millions of Tweets sent per day, the volume of content on Twitter is massive, which makes it extraordinarily complex to strike the right balance between fighting abuse and speaking trurth to power.”
To that end, Twitter has enlisted the help of over 40 organisations and experts from 13 regions to join as “inaugural members of the Council”.

The full list of members – which includes the Samaritans, UK Safer Internet Centre, and Feminist Frequency – can be found on Twitter’s blog.
“On Twitter, every voice has the power to shape the world,” explains Cartes. “We see this power every day, from activists who use Twitter to mobilise citizens to content creators who use Twitter to shape opinion.”
