Rumours Twitter was planning to ditch its time-tested 140-character limit caused users to proclaim the service dead, via the #RIPTwitter hashtag earlier this year.
However, outraged members of the Twitterverse can now rest easy, the character limit isn’t going anywhere.
When questioned on US morning TV mainstay The Today Show, co-founder CEO Jack Dorsey says he has no plans to open up tweets to a potential 10,000 characters (around 2,000 words).
“It’s staying,” he said. “
In the interview, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Twitter’s existence, Dorsey also defended against suspicions the company censors content.
He said: “Absolutely not. Twitter has always been about controls. People can follow who they want, and it’s our job to make sure they see the most important things.”

He also commented on the ability for users to interact with public figures and for those like Donald Trump to get their message out.
“As a microphone, it’s at its best,” Dorsey said
“He uses it certainly to reach out to folks and to understand what they’re talking about and also to have conversations, very simply.”
