Miss anything?

The problem with Twitter is you can't see every tweet. While you're away you're bound to miss something important. But now the service has you covered.

It's just introduced a feature called Recap, which updates you on what happened while you were away. It recycles what it deems the most important tweets – based on engagement and some other factors – into your news feed.

It adjusts itself depending on how often you're on Twitter.

"If you check in on Twitter now and then for a quick snapshot of what's happening, you'll see this recap more often; if you spend a lot of time on Twitter already, you'll see it less," Paul Rosania, product manager at Twitter, wrote in a blog post.

"Our goal is to help you keep up – or catch up – with your world, no matter how much time you spend on Twitter. With a few improvements to the home timeline we think we can do a better job of delivering on that promise without compromising the real time nature of Twitter."

Recycled tweets will be marked with the heading "While you were away", so you can discern the new from the old.

Last year, Twitter announced it would show you tweets from accounts you don't follow. Many of us found this annoying, but we don't have much say in the matter. Like Recap, it's a bid to boost "engagement" with the service, and hence make it more attractive to investors.

Recap is rolling out now for iOS users, and will hit Android devices and twitter.com "soon", according to the company.
