Twitch reaches 100m monthly viewers milestone

Twitch has reached the huge milestone of 100 million monthly viewers.

Streaming video service, Twitch, has announced it reached 100 million monthly viewers at the end of 2014.

That figure is down to the 1.5 million unique broadcasters that are using the streaming service.

Broadcast numbers are up from 90,000 in 2013, while the viewer count has more than doubled from 45 million monthly uniques.

Throughout 2014, Twitch viewers watched over 160 billion minutes of footage, from a total of 11 million broadcasts per month.

At its peak, Twitch managed to pull in one million concurrent viewers during 2014.

That’s not just in the US either. Figures for content viewed outside North America hit 12 billion in December, up from 7.5 billion in January 2014 and 6 billion in January 2013.

“Thanks to each and every member of the Twitch community, 2014 was a truly epic year,” said Twitch in a statement. “As we approach our 4th anniversary, we freflect on the year past. It was the year Twitch played Pokémon, broke 100m monthly viewers and built mobile and console apps worthy of Twitch users everywhere.”

“But that’s just a start, and we’re not resting on our laurels. Together, we made 2014 a year to remember. Let’s do it again in 2015.”

Charities managed to raise $10.5 million over the course of 2014 too, which is more than the total raised by the previous three years total combined earnings.

The number of publishers with a commercial partnership with Twitch is also on the rise, and now includes names like EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, PlayStation, Nintendo, Bethesda and Blizzard.
