Twitch may have been compromised, all passwords reset

Video game streaming company Twitch has confirmed it has expired all user passwords following internal suspicious it may have been hacked.

In a statement released on Monday evening, the Amazon-owned firm admitted there may have been unauthorised access to users’ data.

Customers have been emailed to alert them their username, email address, encrypted password, IP address, name, phone number, address and date of birth may have been compromised.

In the public statement, the company wrote (via VentureBeat): “We are writing to let you know that there may have been unauthorised access to some Twitch user account information.

For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube. As a result, you will be prompted to create a new password the next time you attempt to log into your Twitch account.

“We also recommend that you change your password at any website where you use the same or a similar password. We will communicate directly with affected users with additional details.”

Twitch, which has been at the forefront of the live game streaming revolution, was purchased by Amazon in September 2014 for a whopping $970m (around £650m). Amazon reportedly fended off competition from Google to snap up Twitch.

The company, which allows gamers to post footage from their Xbox, PlayStation and PC gaming endeavours online , attracts 100m views a month.
