Twitch has posted a massive update for its Xbox One console app, adding powerful new search functions.
As announced by Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb, the new Twitch app brings a greater degree of broadcast filtering.
It capitalises on Xbox Live's new ability to "associate real-time gameplay stats with broadcasts," which means that you can apply a whole heap of search filters when seeking out video content.
This can include players stats, game modes, the ability of the player featured in the videos, and more.
Hryb uses the example of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and wanting to seek out video content from the player with the highest kill/death ratio. Another is Forza Horizon 2, and finding content featuring specific car classes.
It's also pointed out that the new search features could help brand new Twitch users to find a large audience quickly. If you're particularly good at a game, the chances are your content will be picked up on.
Another addition is video on demand. This update makes the Xbox One the first and currently only console to permit you to watch past Twitch broadcasts at any time, even when the broadcaster is offline.
The Twitch app homescreen has also been revamped, allowing you to follow specific games or channels which then pop up on your Home screen.
All in all, it's quite a boost for the Xbox One community, and is a vital point of differentiation over the PS4 to boot.
