tvOS 9.2 will relieve the nightmare of typing on the new Apple TV

Thanks to the new Siri remote, finding content on the new Apple TV is much easier than on previous generations.

However, while a simple voice command makes discovering movies and TV shows a doddle, typing in searches, as well as account user names and passwords is even worse than it used to be.

Thankfully Apple has a rather obvious solution in hand for the next version of the tvOS operating system (via 9to5Mac).

The latest beta version of tvOS 9.2 features support for Siri text dictation, enabling Apple TV owners to bypass the horizontal keyboard layout for the first time.

This functionality has long been available on iOS devices, but it’s the first time Apple has unleashed the functionality on its set-top box.

If this isn’t enough to solve your issues, this version of the beta will also feature support for Bluetooth keyboards.

Of course, there’s also be opportunity to use an iOS device’s keyboard by pairing the Apple TV with the Remote app for iOS.

Apple’s redesign of the Apple TV’s keyboard for the 4th-gen model raised a few eyebrows.

While typing on the previous versions of the device was never easy, the decision to move from a relatively easy to navigate grid to a horizontal strip did little to improve the usability.

Elsewhere the update also offers support for Live Photos, access to iCloud Photo Library and support for video podcasts.

Now word yet on when this update will roll out to consumers.
