Despite standard TV sizes jumping from 32-inches to 46-inch in a matter of years, retailer John Lewis has claimed that the trend for increasingly large TVs will continue.
Speaking with TrustedReviews, the high street seller has suggested that it has seen no decline in the trend for increasingly large TV sales, with consumers now favouring 46-inch models as a standard purchase over smaller sets.
“The trend towards bigger screens is definitely going to continue,” John Kempner, a lead TV Buyer with John Lewis said.
He added: “Most new TV owners are now coming into the market with 46-inch to 47-inch models, that’s where we are seeing the biggest growth.
“People are migrating away from 32-inch up to 40-inch, but a lot of people are now buying TVs that are 50-inches and above. This is definitely a trend which will continue, without a doubt.”
Although dropping prices is sure to have played a major role in this widespread move to larger screen sizes, Kempner has also claimed that improving TV designs has helped make the transition a viable option for many consumers.
“One of the constraints people had in not buying a big TV previously was that they didn’t look very nice,” the retail buyer told us. “Now they actually look very beautiful and with the continually shrinking bezels you are not taking up too much space.”
Looking to how big consumer TVs will go and where the next standard of sizes will fall, Kempner has remained hesitant stated: “I don’t know where it is going to end.”
He added: “Every year we come out to CES and we see bigger and bigger screens – they are showing 110-inch TVs this time. I’m not expecting too many customers to buy those just yet, but it shows where the market is going.”
