Years of terrible Michael Bay movies have numbed the affection many folks feel for the original first-generation Transformers cartoons.
These days, it’s hard to envision Optimus in his prime or when Megatron was actually mega, thanks to the horrendous live action clashes of Autobots and Deceptions.
However, there is still hope for the natives of Cybertron in this 21st century, courtesy of the rather immense-looking Transformers: Destruction, which you can see in the brand new gameplay trailer below.
The title, from PlatinumGames (published by Activision), appears for all intents and purposes to be a playable version of the 1980s cartoon in the style of old-school, arcade-style beat ‘em ups of the same era.
So, you’ll be able to play as five Autobot characters, including OGs like Prime, Sideswipe and Bumblebee, and attempt to bend the metal of Megatron, Shockwave and Starscream and co. in battle.
There's a cast of 30 characters in total, while the original voice actors for Prime, Bumblebee and Megatron are back too.
From the gameplay trailer below, it appears there'll be tons of fast-paced, melee action with plenty of combos to hit on your opponents.
First announced at E3, Transformers: Devastation will be out on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on October 6. We can’t wait to play it.
Be gone, Shia LaBeouf! Be gone, Megan Fox! The proper Transformers are back! Any chance of the original theme tune too?
