A500, U500, L500 and L550 to debut later this month with new designs and multi-touch touchpad.
Toshiba has announced a bevy of new laptops for its Satellite consumer range today. Comprising the 16in A500, 13.3in U500, the 15.6in L500 and the 17.3in L550, the new machines will be available from the end of this month, with the budget orientated L300 and L350 models also seeing a face-lift.
Starting with the 16in A500 range (above), prices will start at £599. Processor options include the 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 and the 2.16GHz T6500, with RAM and hard drive options up to 4GB and 500GB respectively. Selected models will get ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics cards and backlit keyboards, while all models will benefit from Harman Kardon speakers – continuing Toshiba’s reputation for excellent laptop audio.
Like most new laptops, the A500’s display is a 16:9 aspect effort with a 1,366 x 768 native resolution. A multi-touch touchpad is the other major new feature, which appears to be a feature every new notebook has these days. Toshiba is also making a big thing of its new ‘A4 full-size’ keyboard, which features a number pad. Unfortunately, as the promo video above shows, it looks as though it’s also as glossy as the outgoing model.
Next is the U500 (above), which is Toshiba’s new 13.3in model. Prices will also start at £599, with processors options being a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo P7350, 2.00GHz Dual Core Pentium T4200 and the 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo T6500. Graphics will be model dependent, being either Intel integrated or ATI’s Mobility Radeon 4570. Both the U500 and the A500 feature a new power saving Eco Utility tool, which has its own dedicated shortcut button.
For those who want something a little larger to replace a desktop there’s the L550 (above). It has a 17.3in display but retains the 1,366 x 768 resolution display, with graphics coming from an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. There’s just a single processor listed, the 2.16GHz T6500, and prices are expected to start at £699.
Finally there’s the 15.6in L500 (above), a budget model that will start at £449. They’ll be three CPU options, with 2.16GHz and 2.0GHz Intel processors and an AMD Turion RM-72 (2.10GHz) providing the budget option. Some models will come with ATI HD 4570 graphics, with cheaper ones sticking with Intel integrated and also 802.11b/g Wi-Fi.
