EA Games has revealed that it received “unprecedented” levels of interest in the recent Titanfall beta.
Although the Xbox One and PC bound first person shooter is launching globally this week, with the UK release date on March 14, a beta release gave select gamers an early chance to play last month.
The Titanfall beta was initially made available to a select group of Xbox One and PC gamers on February 14 to give gaming fans a taste of the release a month before launch.
“[The beta interest was] amazing. Unprecedented,” Will Graham, Products Manager of Titanfall said speaking to TrustedReviews. “I don’t have the exact figures, but we were blown away.”
Following huge demand for beta access, EA Games and developer Respawn opened up the early access to all Xbox One gamers.
Graham explained that this was a deliberate move to test the service before allowing all gamers to get some pre-launch time with Titanfall.
“We had to drip feed the service first as it’s new for Microsoft,” he told us.
Titanfall is a multiplayer-only game for the Xbox One and PC where players can play as free running pilots or dwell in the giant mech armours of the Titans.
The game is also launching on the Xbox 360, but won’t arrive until March 28 in order to give the developer Bluepoint more time to polish the game.
“In these last few weeks before launch, Respawn is in the final stages of polishing the Xbox One and PC versions of the game. Bluepoint is doing the same with the Xbox 360 version,” EA said in a recent statement that announced delays to the Xbox 360 offering.
“To give them the time they need to put the finishing touches on the current-gen version of the game, we are moving the Xbox 360 ship date to March 25 in North America and March 28 in Europe.”
