Tinder wants to help you steer clear of syphilis

Tinder is now helping users find clinics for sexually transmitted disease testing.

The hook-up app wants to soothe concerns about whether Tinder does enough to keep users safe.

The move is in response to a long-running feud between Tinder and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Late last year, the foundation paid for billboards in Los Angeles and New York, associating Tinder with a host of STDs.

In response, Tinder sent a cease and desist notice to the non-profit group, demanding the billboards be taken down.

Tinder has now relented however, and has added a link to a STD testing clinic locator on its Health & Safety page.

There have been recent reports that the rise in Tinder’s popularity has led to an increase in the spread of STDs.

However, Tinder responded to this alleged correlation in a statement to Reuters:

“While the CDC, [which] conducted the largest and most credible study on the topic, has never identified any connection that supports the idea that Tinder usage correlates with, let alone causes, an increase in STDs, we’re of course in favour of organisations that provide public education resources on the topic.”

It’s not yet clear whether Tinder plans to integrate any STD clinic locator features in the actual app.

Do you think Tinder does enough to keep its users safe? Let us know in the comments.
