Tidal lands on Mac and Windows, announces Ticketmaster tie-in

Jay-Z’s music streaming start-up Tidal has launched a pair of desktop apps for Windows and Mac OS X.

The beta apps are available for folks rocking Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.6 (and above) and join the existing web player, iOS and Android applications.

The desktop applications feature a design similar to the web player, while Tidal’s entire stable of apps now offers an improved user interface, with better search, simpler menu options and new personalisation tools.

All portals now include a new tie-in with Ticketmaster that will allow Tidal subscribers to purchase tickets, access pre-sales and qualify for exclusive giveaways.

Tidal has also announced it is offering student discounts for anyone in the United States with a qualifying .edu email address. Instead of the usual $9.99 a month subscription fee, those in education can get Tidal for $4.99 a month.

Better still, if Stateside music fans have an ear for lossless playback, they’ll be able to nab a Hi-Fi subscription for $9.99 a month; also half price.

Spotify also announced student discounts recently, so it seems the battle for streaming supremacy is already benefiting consumers.
