Three more Resident Evil games set for Xbox One, PS4 re-release

Capcom has announced plans to release a trio of blood-soaked titles from the Resident Evil back catalogue on the new generation of consoles.

As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the original horror classic, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5 and 2012’s Resident Evil 6 will see re-relases on the PS4 and Xbox One this year.

The releases, each of which will cost $20/£16, will commence with the sixth game in the season, complete with all included post-launch DLC, in March.

RE5 will follow in the summer, before RE4 infects the consoles in the autumn. The games will primarily be digital downloads, but Capcom says it also plans to launch physical copies of the game in the American territories.

The news comes after just a couple of months after the release of Resident Evil 0, the 2002 prequel to the original, arrived on next-gen consoles in January. The original itself got a four-star HD paint job last year.

Meanwhile, Capcom is also working on a remake of the Resident Evil 2, arguably the most popular installment in franchise history.

Back in December 2015, Capcom announced the modernisation of the game wouldn’t be your typical remastering, but a full on redo from the ground up. There’s no news yet on when that title will arrive.

Meanwhile, Capcom continues to work on the next step for the franchise and, last October, revealed the Resi team is focusing on VR projects. Interesting.
