This week’s 10 most pirated movies revealed

Cinema prices are going up, popcorn isn’t getting any cheaper, and movie viewers are increasingly going rogue online.

TorrentFreak has revealed the ten most pirated films of the week ending 4 April 2016 and, not surprisingly, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken top spot for the second week in a row.

The new Star Wars movie has been available on piracy sites for a while, but only in shoddy shot-with-a-video-camera quality.

However, last week’s digital release – and this week’s DVD release – of the movie has meant that 1080p copies have leaked online. That means anyone holding out for Full HD-quality versions of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will now be free to pick up a dodgy hi-res copy of the movie on the web.

In second place this week is Deadpool, Marvel’s R-rated superhero action comedy, which has held that position for two weeks in a row.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice places third, although it should be noted that it’s still only available in “cam” form.

Here’s the full list (note that the bracketed number is last week’s position):

1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (1)
2. Deadpool (2)
3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (9)
4. The Revenant (4)
5. Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade (3)
6. Hail Caesar! (N/A)
7. Kung Fu Panda 3 (6)
8. Pandemic (N/A)
9. The Hateful Eight (8)
10. The 5th Wave (5)

It’s worth noting that obtaining pirated versions of these movies is still illegal, obviously. So if you want to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens, don’t forget that you can now acquire it legitimately for home viewing – albeit for a fee.
