It’s been a year of big news. From Brexit to Trump and Pokémon Go to the iPhone 7’s missing headphone port, there’s been plenty to talk about over the past 12 months.
Google’s just released its list of the year’s most searched terms though, and you might be surprised what we’ve all been looking for.
According to the search giant, ‘Euro 2016’ was the most searched for term here in the UK, with ‘What is Pokemon Go?’ the most popular ‘what is’ question pointed in Google’s direction.
Euro 2016 topped the annual UK search list ahead of Pokemon Go and David Bowie, the latter spiking after the iconic singer’s death.

While us Brits were trying to find footy scores and work out what the hell happened to England’s hopes, the wider world was focussing more on the year’s big tech chat.
With now President Elect, Donald Trump, only the third most search term globally during 2016, the whispy-haired leader was beaten in the polls by Pokemon Go and Apple’s iPhone 7.
As in the sales stakes, the iPhone 7 beat the Samsung Galaxy S7 and recently released Google Pixel in Google’s global search charts.

The most searched for non-smartphone tech item? That honour goes to Sky Q, the broadcaster’s new 4K-friendly, multiview-mastering TV platform.
The most searched for movies of the year were a battle of off-beat superheroes, with Deadpool seeing off Suicide Squad.
