Moto X 2014

Word on the web has been quiet about Motorola’s next flagship smartphone, but a new leak puts a stopper on the silence.

Specs have emerged purporting to detail the innards of the third-gen Moto X, giving hope to fans of the series.

The device will seemingly carry a 5.2-inch display with a eye-watering 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, as reported by STJS Gadgets.

Tipped to sit inside is a Snapdragon 808 processor – that’s the same chip used on the new LG G4.

It’s an interesting choice for both handsets, as the newer Snapdragon 810 was expected to be the mainstay for this year’s flagship smartphones.

Alleged overheating issues with the 810 have raised concerns amongst consumers though, and may have influenced manufacturers in decided which chip to use.

The report also claims the Moto X 2015 will make use of 4GB of RAM, which seems slightly excessive for a smartphone.

The camera looks set to offer 16-megapixel image resolution, and two storage options will be available, namely 32GB and 64GB.

A 3,280mAh battery is listed as powering the device, which is pretty sizeable for a smartphone. We’d expect at least a day’s worth of charge from a cell that large.

And, of course, the device will run on Android as usual. The report claims users will get Android 5.1.1, but that could change depending on when the Moto X actually lands.

It’s expected that Motorola will formally unveil the device in September, so Motorola loyalists might want to save their cash.
