Thin Ice is a clothing line that helps you lose weight just by wearing it

Imagine if you could lose weight just by wearing your clothes. That’s the idea behind Thin Ice.

It’s a new clothing line that tricks your body into thinking you’re in a cold environment. This kicks your metabolism into overdrive, and it works harder, burning more fat. The makers estimate you can burn between 500 and 1,000 calories a day, just by wearing their clothes.

The range consists of a vest and an insole for your trainers. These target the parts of your body with high concentrations of thermoreceptors (i.e. the parts that detect cold). Your body then warms the blood and pumps it harder to reach your extremities, which burns calories.

Of course, you could just turn off your heating at home during the winter months (which would save you a few pennies too). But you can’t take a cold room with you everywhere. And it wouldn’t do much good at this time of year.

You won’t feel cold either, as your body will soon adjust. And if you do, you can always turn the temperature up using the app on your smartphone or tablet.

It works using Peltier cooling chips to chill certain parts of your body. These force heat to one side and leave the other side cool. They’re also used in some electronics to prevent overheating.

It’s passed its funding goal and will ship in December. You can buy the vest and two insoles for $145 (£93).
