Game of Thrones isn't exactly Saturday evening light entertainment and the directors certainly aren’t shy of the red stuff spurting out of horrific wounds. One scene was so graphic, though, that it just couldn't make it past the cutting room floor.
Spoilers ahead if you haven't watched Season 4 of Game of Thrones
One of the most memorable episodes of five seasons of GoT comes courtesy of the epic Mano-A-Mano featuring the lightning quick and charismatic Viper of Dorne and the brutal giant known as the Mountain.
The Mountain manages to, quite literally, rip victory from the jaws of defeat.
The gruesome death of the Viper was visceral enough while watching the episode, but it turns out an even more vicious conclusion to the fight didn't make it to the small screen.
Ben Crompton, who plays Steward Eddison "Dolorous Edd" Tollett of the Night's Watch, outlined the shot too gruesome to show on TV.
Speaking at a special event in London Crompton described the missing scene in detail:
“I went in one session and they were flicking through stuff and they showed the Red Viper Mountain fight and they showed an edit where he puts the fingers in and he just pulls his face apart, but instead of cutting like it does in the show he just pulls his face apart and I just said “Oh my god they are never going to be able to show that on telly” and they didn’t but the effects were brilliant”
