There’s now more than 4,000 dedicated Android Wear apps
The Apple Watch might be stomping the sales race, but Google could just be edging the wearable apps challenge, new figures have suggested.
Speaking during the company’s Google I/O keynote, the search giant turn tech behemoth has confirmed that there are now more than 4,000 dedicated Android Wear apps available for download.
“If you can dream it, you can build it and our developer community has really responded,” David Singleton, Google’s Director of Android Wear, said having taken to the I/O keynote stage.
He added:
These aren’t all basic, phone-echoing features either. Many build on a number of the wearables’ mass of integrated sensors and hardware additions.
“There’s thousands of apps that do way more than just tell the time and each one of them is an example of what’s possible on a wearable device,” Singleton stated.
“We know that wearable devices are evolving fast and today’s devices include everything from accelerometers, heart rate monitors to microphones, GPS and Wi-Fi,”
“We have made apps to make use of all of these features too.”

It’s not just about apps, either. For those with varying tastes, there are now well over 1,000 Android Wear watch faces to let you better attune your techy timepiece to your ever-changing tastes.
“There are now over 1,500 watch faces for Android Wear and we are thrilled with all the ways you can express your style with Android Wear.
Despite detailing the growing Android Wear platform, Google failed to use I/O to launch new wearable hardware. New additions could be with us sooner rather than later though.
“By the end of the year there will be many more Android Wear devices to choose from,” Singleton said.
