There is a reason your party in Final Fantasy 15 love to wear black

Ever wondered why your party in Final Fantasy 15 look like emo Backstreet Boys? If so, we have the answer.

The main cast of Final Fantasy 15 love to wear black, and this fashion statement seems to have raised a few eyebrows.

Game director Hajime Tabata took time to explain the aesthetic choice in the game’s forums (via Nova Crystallis)

“The clothing worn by the four main characters is the official battle gear of the Kingdom of Lucis,” Tabata explained.

“Noctis is a member of the royal family and the other three characters are parts of various Lucian national organizations and they are each wearing the specific battle dress relevant to their individual stations.”

According to Tabata, the colour black also plays a significant part in Final Fantasy 15’s setting:

“In the Kingdom of Lucis where our heroes reside, the color black has historically been treated as a special color. Because of this, the attire of the royal family and those in occupations closely tied to them are unified by having black as a base coloring,” he explained.

“This part of the lore is the reason why the outfits of all four main characters are black. For the finished game we also intend on having their clothing having effects in battle and not just being a part of the world and its background. So watch out for that too!”

We aren’t sure what kind of station decided Michael Jackson-inspired attire is suitable for combat, but who are we to disagree.

Final Fantasy 15 is set to launch before the end of 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One, with a release date to be announced in March 2016.
