For the poor folks who seem to smash phone screens with greater regularity than plates at a Greek wedding, the shatterproof display on the Moto X Force was a godsend.
However, such is the expense of the excellent stock Android device, the screen-saving tech remains out of the reach of some shoppers.
Thankfully, help may be at hand in future versions of the mid-range Moto G, with the Lenovo-owned firm vowing to bring the feature to devices farther down the trough.
Speaking to TechRadar at MWC 2016, Moto president Rick Osterloh said: “Our aim in the long run is take all our tech as low as we can. We did that with the Moto Maker on the Moto G and the little twist to activate the camera.
“However, that unbreakable screen technology is super expensive right now and that makes it hard to tier at the moment. But that is our aim.”

In the meantime, the 2015 Moto G remains one of the most loved, best value mid-range phones around.
The latest iteration offered a vastly improved 13-megapixel main camera camera, IPX7 water resistance and smooth and slick performance via the Snapdragon 410 processor.
The handset boasts a 720p HD screen, up to 16GB of built-in storage and up to 32GB additional memory through the micro SD slot.
At just £159 you could say it’s cheap enough to replace should disaster strike, but a shatterproof display would add yet another dimension to a handset that changed the paradigm for what an affordable phone should be.
Just don’t expect it in 2016’s version…
