The Minecraft live-action movie is coming, but not until 2019

So who's the mystery screenwriter?

Warner Brothers and Mojang have announced the live-action Minecraft film will be released on 24 May 2019.

As we already know, the flick will be directed by It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia creator and star Rob McElhenney, but the photo accompanying today's announcement blocked the name of the screenwriter.

Plot details remain non-existent, but at least there’s scope for a plot now following the launch of the Story Mode episodes of the last year.

“I know you’ve been thinking just about every day, 'When’s the Minecraft movie coming out?' Luckily for you, we can finally say!” wrote Mojang COO Vu Bui in a blog post.

The Minecraft movie will be released on 24 May 2019! The film will also be released in 3D & IMAX.

“Yes, that might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome. And we all want an awesome Minecraft movie, right?”

Microsoft, which owns the rights to Minecraft, will be hoping the film will help it profit on the $2.5 billion (£1.9bn) it paid for the IP back in 2014.
