The latest brewing gadget turns fruit into cider in less than two weeks

There are few things finer on a baking hot British summer’s day, than a glass of ice cold, crisp cider to take off the edge. The makers of the latest in a lengthening line of brewing gadgets to hit Kickstarter appear to agree.

The $329 Alchema will allow thirsty buyers to turn actual fruit into hard cider “with the simplicity of making a cup of coffee,” meaning you’ll never had to buy Strongbow again.

According to the project page, the process takes less than two weeks and makes it easy to craft unique flavours using the fruit you have on hand.

All folks will need to do is choose a recipe through the accompanying app, add the fruit sugar and water, as well as the yeast to enable fermentation.

Once the batch is finished, you’ll receive a notification and it’ll be bottoms up.

However, the Alchmea is more than just a pitcher you shove ingredients into and hope for the best. The project page also explains

The firm behind the project has also explained why Alchema might be a little easier to master than traditional home brewing.

“The reason why passionate homebrew beginners often fail at their first batch is often due to contamination, which causes a bad taste,” the company says.

“Alchema is equipped with medical grade UV-C LED light that sanitizes the container before starting the fermentation process.

“Additionally, the Alchema app allows the user to monitor all aspects of the fermentation process, eliminating the need to open the lid and check the batch. This eliminates another potential cause of contamination.”

The device, which if funded won’t ship until September 2017 (via Engadget), also makes it possible to brew mead and wine.

The Kickstarter project is seeking $150,000 over the next six weeks to help make it a reality.
