The Hug tracks your water intake to keep you hydrated

Are you drinking enough water? Chances are you’re not, which means you could be dehydrated, which could lead to you not performing your best, physically and mentally. Luckily, there’s an app and a device for that.

It’s called The Hug, and it’s a sensor that fits on your water bottle to track how much you’re drinking. It feeds back this info to an app on your iPhone or iPad (no Android version at the moment), so you can stay hydrated, and at the top of your game.

The Hug uses motion data and algorithms to track how much you drink, and sends automatic reminders via Bluetooth 4.0 to the companion app. Not drinking enough? It’ll tell you. Hitting your targets? Again, it’ll let you know.

You don’t need to worry about the sensor misinterpreting any old movement as you drinking, either. It filters out other movements, so recognises when you’re taking a swig, and when your bottle is being knocked around in your bag. This makes for a much more accurate reading.

It’s flexible, and fits almost any bottle, whether it be plastic, metal, glass, whatever. Though it’s optimised for bottles between 2.16-3.14 inches in diameter.

It charges via USB, and only needs to be juiced up once a week. That’s expected to be even longer by the time the final units ship.

The device is currently being funded on Kickstarter, and is expected to ship in March next year. You can pledge your support for just $5 over on its page.
